SLUGTECH® SP

SLUGTECH is a biological molluscicide containing infective juveniles of Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita (isolate DDT M1) in an inert carrier for the control of agricultural and horticultural molluscs, including slugs, e.g. Deroceras reticulatum and snails, e.g. Monacha cantiana that are harmful to plants in the field or greenhouse.

Appearance

Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita are minute worm-like nematodes that are approximately between 0.3 - 0.5 mm long and are transparent in appearance. They occur naturally in soils in areas prone with molluscs and are very active when observed under microscope.

Method of Action

Vigorous infective juveniles in SLUGTECH actively search for and enter the pest body through natural openings. They release symbiotic bacteria that stop the slug feeding within a few days. The slug eventually dies approximately one week or longer after infection depending on exposure rate and environmental conditions. The dead cadaver provides a food source for the reproducing nematodes; hence they grow and reproduce resulting into several hungry generations that disperse in search of further prey. Once the Slug is infected it develops a characteristic swelling mantle.

Application

Mix the required amount of the water soluble SLUGTECH with water and stir well to form a uniform suspension. Apply to the garden using a watering can and onto larger areas using drip irrigation or standard high volume spray equipment at a minimum water rate of 1000 litres per Ha. All filters finer than 18 mesh must be removed. Use a maximum pressure of 5 bars and spray nozzles of at least 0.5mm. Applications should be done to wet crop or moist soil in the evening for maximum target reach. Irrigate immediately after application.

Application rates
Apply 3 billion Juveniles of Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita per hectare (300,000 juveniles per square metre).

Frequency of Application
Depending on the pest pressure SLUGTECH can be applied between 2 - 3 times every 2 - 4 weeks apart. When the pest pressure is high apply SLUGTECH 3 times 2 weeks apart. When the pressure is low apply SLUGTECH once every 6 weeks.

Storage

SLUGTECH comes in two pack sizes one of 0.05 litre polypropylene containing 10 million infective juveniles, and 0.25 litre polypropylene container carrying 50 million infective Juveniles.

Store and transport at 8-12° C do not freeze. Use within 24 hours of receipt. Keep out of direct sunlight.

Important information

Applications during rainfall and/or during the evenings provide an added advantage of timing applications when the slugs are active and therefore more vulnerable.

Compatibility

Although SLUGTECH is compatible with most fungicides and insecticides tank mixing is not recommended. Simultaneous use of Nematicides must be avoided.
